Footprints, works by calculating the approximate location of each attendee in a virtual meeting based on their IP address, converting that to their physical Latitude and Longitude and then determining the roundtrip distance they would have to travel to get the the meeting host’s location and back home again.

 

Using widely accepted formulae for converting travel distances to the Carbon Emissions that those journeys would generate, we calculate how much CO2 each person has saved by attending the meeting virtually instead of jumping in a car or boarding a plane to be there. We can’t of course calculate how much time and other resources you saved in the process.

Footprints shows each attendee their Carbon savings, the total savings of the entire meeting and how much the organization has saved the planet over all of the meetings that have been run using the tool. It’s a great way to demonstrate to your clients and employees that you take the impact of your operations on the environment seriously.
